Dear Reader,
In this portfolio, you will find a magnitude of pieces which reflect my growth and strength (as well as weaknesses) as a writer.
A. VBCPS pretest- this was the very first writing assignment of the year and showed me what I needed to improve on. I was able to create a distinct voice, but lacked the deduction to make the overall writing successful.
B. College Essay Collage- this was an assignment done to encourage brainstorming for college essays, with the intent of digging deep to find what inspired myself as a writer. The collage discussion attached, was my explanations for the significant items that were placed on the collage.
C. College Essay- Rebirth was the title of my college essay, and at the time I was incredibly proud of it. However, now, not as much. I enjoyed my introduction to the point that I kept it in the paper, even though it did not flow with the rest of the essay in terms of tone. However, it was an admirable start to the first process paper of the year. The reflection attached was incredibly hard to write as it was difficult to address the changes that I made, and with what purpose.
D. AP Prompts- these were practice essays from previous AP exams done with the intent of practicing for the test in May. there were three types the argument, synthesis, and rhetorical analysis. The last one was the most challenging, but also the most rewarding with the 9 that I earned on it.
E. Next is the argument/research paper. Attached to this paper is also my speech that I transcribed based upon the research paper. My topic was on how juveniles ought to be treated as an adult in the criminal justice system for violent offenses more often. This was an enjoyable experience, due to my debate background, and love for writing an argument.
F. Reading Journal: I chose my first ever reading journal for Their Eyes Were Watching God. This novel was the novel that I was most engaged with, which is why I chose that particular reading journal. However, looking back at it, my diction was extremely poor in articulating my ideas. However, my voice was strongly present.
G. Vietnam Web Quest journals: Our assignment was to imagine ourselves into the Vietnam War and write about our perspectives and insight into the War from sources on the internet. Attached to this, is my web journal, placing myself in the shoes of a politician, and how the politician would use rhetorical appeals to persuade an audience. This assignment was interesting as I thought of myself in a different role, than that of a student in the 21st century.
H. Wildcard: For the wildcard, I chose my creative essay opening excerpts from a College essay exercise we did towards the start of the year. I chose this because I had so much fun with the creative aspect of the piece. I also find that it is some of my best work in terms of creativity, and I plan to use some of these openings in the future.
I. Final Thoughts: This is a surprise, so check it our for yourself. It has profound meaning, especially in regards to writing.
